Glass temperature measurement

The glass industry measures temperatures of transparent and non-transparent objects. Special requirements of glass temperature measurement have to be considered. The main differences are related to the measurement of the glass surface temperature or core temperature.

Glass melting furnaces, working end and feeder

Because of their advantages, pyrometers are replacing the previously used thermocouples for the measurement of temperatures in melting furnaces, forehearths, working ends and feeders.
Specific glass-pyrometers with fibre optics can be used at ambient temperatures up to 250°C without water cooling.

Glass gob temperature measurement

Glass gob temperature measurement  is only possible using non-contact thermometers. The pyrometers needed for this application have to be fast due to the high cycle frequency and must be capable of measuring the temperature inside the gob.

Glass mould temperature measurement

The measurement of glass mould temperatures requires a very rapid operation because the moulds open and close at high speed.

Glass treating processes and bulb manufacturing

The surface temperature is a decisive parameter for annealing and bending of flat glass, shaping of the glass with gas burners or producing lamps . For this reason only a low depth of penetration is needed.

Portable pyrometers in the glass industry

Many applications in the glass industry need the use of portable pyrometers.
